How to celebrate your strength and inspire others

This International Women’s Day

I still remember walking into my first International Women’s Day event years ago. The room was filled with strong, inspiring women—women who had overcome challenges, built businesses, raised families, and supported one another along the way. There was an undeniable energy in the room, a sense of connection and empowerment that I had never felt before.

Fast forward to today, and I’m not just attending these events—I’m helping to organise them.

As Vice President of the Coffs Coast Business Women’s Network Committee, I’ve spent over 6 years bringing women together and creating opportunities for them to step into their own power. And every year, I have the honour of organising and sponsoring the Coffs Coast International Women’s Day Breakfast—an event that reminds us all just how powerful we are when we come together.

Why? Because empowered women empower women. And that’s exactly what this day is all about.

Whether you’re feeling strong and ready to take on the world, or you’re still finding your footing after a big life change, this day is for YOU. This is your reminder to celebrate yourself, honour your journey, and uplift the women around you.

Here’s how to make this International Women’s Day truly meaningful.

1. Celebrate How Far You’ve Come

When was the last time you stopped and acknowledged everything you’ve been through and everything you’ve accomplished?

💡 Try this:

  • Take a moment to write down three things you’re proud of from the past year.

  • Reflect on a challenge you’ve faced and how you handled it.

You don’t have to have it all figured out, but recognising your own strength is one of the most powerful things you can do.

2. Share Your Story—Because Someone Needs to Hear It

If you’ve ever been inspired by another woman’s story, guess what? Your story has the power to do the same for someone else.

💡 Try this:

  • Open up about something you’ve learned, whether with a friend, in a journal, or even on social media.

  • Remember: You don’t have to be “perfect” to inspire others—just be real.

At the International Women’s Day Breakfast, I’ve seen firsthand how one woman sharing her journey can shift perspectives and spark change.

3. Support Another Woman on Her Journey

One of the best things about International Women’s Day? It’s not just about celebrating ourselves—it’s about lifting each other up.

💡 Try this:

  • Reach out to a woman in your life who has inspired you. Let her know how much she means to you.

  • If you’re in a position to mentor or support someone, take that step. A simple conversation could change someone’s path.

In my work with the Business Women’s Network Committee, I’ve seen how this encouragement can be game-changers.
We rise by lifting others.

4. Be the Role Model You Wish You Had

Whether you realise it or not, someone is looking up to you. It might be your child, a friend, a colleague, or someone watching from afar.

💡 Try this:

  • Lead by example—set boundaries, take up space, and show others that self-care is not selfish.

  • Be open about your journey, including the struggles and wins.

At our International Women’s Day event, I’m always reminded that women don’t just need inspiration—they need to see other women DOING the thing. So, go after what you want, and know that someone else is watching and thinking, If she can do it, maybe I can too.

5. Show Up—For Yourself and Others

Whether it’s attending an event, having an important conversation, or simply celebrating yourself, show up in a way that feels meaningful to you.

💡 Try this:

  • Attend a women’s networking event, like the Coffs Harbour International Women’s Day Breakfast (if you’re local, I’d love to see you there!)

  • Support women-owned businesses or initiatives.

  • Take a bold step toward something you’ve been putting off—because confidence is built through action.

While International Women’s Day is about celebrating our collective strength, it’s also a powerful reminder that we don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. As women, we thrive in supportive communities, and that’s exactly why we’ve created a Divorce Recovery Retreat—a space where you can heal, grow, and step into your next chapter with clarity and confidence.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by separation or just need a reset, this retreat is designed for you.
